You will notice my site states “A Planet First operation”, I will be the first to point out the hypocrisy in this statement. Fishing, even just boating has obvious environmental impacts. My boat is powered by a 1999 yamaha 2 stroke, this engine burns oil and gas at same time and contributes to climate change and oil residue is being released into the water while the engine is running. My boat is also powered by a 24 volt Minn Kota trolling motor, I am using this electric motor for about 80% of the day when I am fishing inshore. Over the last 3 trips on my boat (2 bareboat charters for clients and one trip for my kids and I) Kingfish II burned a total of 9 gallons. When I am on the water we pick up trash every single trip, at the dock, launch ramp and on the water. Our lunches are made at home and in tupperware, all water is in reusable hydroflasks. When you use my boat, please pick up trash, ensure your own trash ends up in cooler, I will throw it out for you.
For me personally my way to minimize my activities on the planet involves rarely buying new clothes, when I do it tends to be patagonia clothing from a used gear sale at REI. I even buy my shoes used at REI :). I have solar on my home, I compost, I don’t eat meat produced by our industrial meat industry (I do eat hunted game, when I can get it). I also used to ride my bike to work, now I walk to my sons room so no emissions there haha! My point to this post is we can all do our part for the environment, if we want to enjoy modern conveniences our impact will always be there, but we can minimize it in our own ways. I am working on getting Panga Charters signed up for the 1% for the planet program once I do I will update here! Appreciate the support thus far, have a great summer!
